Relevance for Europe’s eSAF Scale-up
Europe’s eSAF scale-up will require more than individual pilot projects. It will depend on replicable plant concepts, cost-efficient renewable energy supply, reliable hydrogen production, secured CO₂ pathways, compliant certification structures and credible project execution.
Ceplus addresses this challenge through an off-grid and vertically integrated plant model. The company’s approach is designed to reduce exposure to grid bottlenecks, interconnection delays and fragmented project interfaces. By combining renewable power generation, water sourcing, hydrogen production, storage and customer delivery, Ceplus aims to create a scalable model for RFNBO and synthetic fuel production.
This positioning is relevant for Europe’s emerging eSAF market because it connects industrial fuel demand with domestic renewable molecule production and long-term energy sovereignty.
Technology and Project Status
Ceplus is developing Plant E in South-East Spain, as its lead project. According to the company, Plant E is designed to combine renewable energy production, hydrogen electrolysis, CO₂ conversion, and synthetic liquid hydrocarbon production.
The project is intended to produce approximately 12 ktpa of liquid hydrocarbons, including renewable synthetic fuel products, and is being developed as a scalable blueprint for future Power-to-Liquids infrastructure.
Plant E's location benefits from strong renewable energy resources and access to regional industrial and logistics infrastructure. According to Ceplus, the project has completed its feasibility study, and the environmental permitting process has been initiated.
Collaboration Context
Ceplus Energy may be relevant for organisations across the eSAF and PtX value chain, including:
Airlines and aviation fuel buyers
Hydrogen and RFNBO offtakers
Industrial energy users
Renewable energy partners
CO₂ source and utilisation partners
Technology suppliers and EPC partners
Investors and infrastructure finance partners
Local governments and regional development agencies
Research, modelling and optimisation partners
Company Overview
Ceplus Energy AG develops a pipeline of Power-to-X projects in Europe with the aim of supplying European industry with green fuels that are less exposed to geopolitical energy dependencies. The company focuses on Europe’s energy and fuel independence and combines off-grid renewable energy infrastructure with integrated hydrogen and PtX production concepts.
Through its off-grid design and optimisation of the full production chain, Ceplus aims to produce eSAF and other green fuels at competitive cost. Its lead project, Plant E in Spain, is designed as the first step toward a scalable portfolio of RFNBO production assets.
Role in the eSAF Ecosystem
Ceplus Energy is positioned as a PtX project developer and future operator of a production plant portfolio. Its role in the eSAF ecosystem is focused on the development of plant design optimisations, off-grid energy concepts and integrated production structures that can support cost-efficient synthetic fuel production.
The company’s approach addresses one of the central challenges in the eSAF market: reducing production cost while maintaining compliance, scalability and industrial relevance. By designing plants around their own renewable energy supply, storage and hydrogen production, Ceplus aims to reduce dependency on grid availability and interconnection bottlenecks.
